An Evening with Zakiya Hooker

Today’s guest on the Lil’ Drummer Girl podcast is Zakiya Hooker.  She made her debut performance in 1991 with her infamous dad, John Lee Hooker, at the Kaiser Center Theatre in Oakland, CA.

Zakiya has gone on to perform on shows with the likes of Etta James, Charles Brown, John Hammond, Taj Mahal, Charlie Musselwhite and many more.

Zakiya’s music is as broad as the multitude of genres they cover.  She is a  strong and versatile vocalist, and, Zakiya has carved out a market for herself.  The Jazzy Blues sound on her debut European CD, Another Generation Of The Blues and her second International release on Pointblank/Virgin, Flavors of the Blues takes you in and out of songs like “Hey Lady”, “Baby you Busted”, “Big Girl Panties” and more.

Zakiya is also a multi-faceted artist, she designs jewelry as well as hosts her own livestreams on Instagram called  “Gardening with Zakiya”.

Zakiya will tell you you it’s never too late to learn something new (she learned how to play the guitar in 2015 at the ripe age of 67).

So grab your ear buds and come join the fun.  Be sure to check out the upcoming festival on August 1st and 2nd here
