The Fairgrounds – St. Pete’s Newest Artist Playground
I didn’t know what to expect when I first heard about the new art installation called The Fairgrounds in Downtown St. Pete which was opened this month by Liz Dimmitt, Fairgrounds CEO and Co-Founder.
Well, all I can say is that it has surpassed my expectations and more. The installation combines innovative technology and art which were created by over 60 artists who collaborated on this 15,000 square foot home filled with art and wonder.
As I approached the entrance to the building, I noticed a large sign for a Daddy Kool Records. My, oh my, was I ever delighted. Being a collector of vinyl records since I bought my first 45 records at age 6, well, I felt like I had gone to vinyl heaven. (Please be sure to check out the video so you can see what I mean).
Once inside the building, we were instructed as to what we could expect and what we could and couldn’t do during our tour.
The long hallway lead us up to the main exhibit hall immediately transported us into a time warp. We were met by a beautiful, colorful, wall mural with the Fairgrounds name on it. It reminded me of a fun Keith Haring piece.
Once we turned the corner, we were then placed into another capsule of time before we entered the main exhibit hall. The colorful neon moving tunnel made me feel as if I just stepped onto another planet.
The uniqueness of this installation well, I could say I was in a world-famous museum in NYC, but, I wasn’t. I didn’t have to travel that far because it’s right here in my own backyard. This is truly a one-of-a-kind art exhibit.
We roamed around from room to room. Each one of them gave us food for thought, whether it had to do with the world at large, or some of the important issues we’re currently facing today.
I highly suggest taking a look-see. If you’re not from the area but are taking a trip to the Tampa/St. Pete area in the near future, this is a must-see to add to your “go see list”.
Not only was I so inspired by the works of these artistic geniuses, but I also had one of those full-circle life moments. I realized while walking around that I was there at a Madico glass company Christmas party back in 2018.
It was pretty crazy to see how they had turned this building around from an industrial glass film manufacturing company into this amazing art exhibit (you see, you just never know how life’s events will turn out).
